CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Twenty-one men and six women from Patriot League schools will try to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships when they compete in the 2013 NCAA Division I Track and Field East Preliminary Round from Thursday-Saturday at North Carolina A&T's Aggie Stadium in Greensboro.

The top-48 ranked athletes in each event in the region - which encompasses all schools east of the Mississippi River - qualified for the Preliminary Round. The top-12 finishers in each event from the East Regional this weekend will join the top-12 finishers from the NCAA West Regional to advance to the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. from June 5-8.

Two Patriot Leaguers are trying to make return trips to the NCAA Championships, and both Navy junior Zach Duncavage and Bucknell senior Leonard Joseph come in highly-seeded in their events once again. Duncavage is the seventh-seed in the discus, while Joseph is the 10th seed for the hammer throw. The discus will open up the weekend's field events at 10 a.m. on Thursday, while the hammer throw will be competed on Saturday at 10 a.m. Bucknell's Leonard Webster, who is seeded 38th, will join Duncavage in the discus, while the Patriot League features two high seeds in the hammer throw with Army's Nicholas Snoad coming in at 14th.

Duncavage placed seventh in the discus at the 2012 NCAA East Regional to advance to the NCAA Championship, where he placed 16th and earned USTFCCCA Second-Team All-America honors. Joseph just made it to the NCAA Championship last year by placing 12th in the hammer throw at the East Regional, and went on to earn Honorable Mention All-America recognition by placing 17th at the NCAA Championship.

While the women's side features six qualifiers, two are seeded in position to possibly become the first female Patriot Leaguers since 2008 to make it to the NCAA Championship. Lafayette's Rachel Pena is seeded 10th in the hammer throw, which will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. Navy's Maressa Guynn is the 13th seed in the discus on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. They will each have Patriot League company in their events, with Lehigh's Jimil Ataman (27th) and E'Lana Lemon (30th) in the hammer throw and Navy's Lauren Allam (40th) joining her teammate in the discus. Navy's Alix Membreno (34th) will also compete in the javelin to give the Mids a League-high nine overall representatives at the NCAA East Regional Championship.

Army and Lehigh each follow the Mids with five representatives. Army's Scott Geary also finished in the top 48 in the men's hammer throw and discus, but elected to participate in West Point's graduation exercises instead of head to the East Preliminary Round.
